15 Habits To Help Promote Healthy Living
Living a healthy lifestyle can seem unattainable, unrealistic, and intimidating. But I’m here to tell you – you’re wrong! Healthy living comes from creating small habits, little by little, that together add up to a healthier lifestyle.
Healthy living starts with a positive mindset that will encourage you when it seems tough or not worth it! Challenge yourself to let go of immediate perfectionism and your expectation to completely change who you are.
It’s SUPER important to start small, set goals that feel exciting and encouraging, and slowly add on as you see fit! On the other hand, you do not want to drown yourself in guilt and negativity if you fall short on some goals or aren’t consistent every single day. I find a health journal tracker like this one to be super helpful.
Remind yourself: healthy living starts with just healthier living. You’ll get there! Speak to yourself the way you would speak to a loved one or best friend, and start by incorporating as many or as little of these habits as you can to get started.

Important Habits For Healthy Living
Habit #1: Aim to sleep between 6-8 hours every night.
Habit #2: Keep your body moving! Try to get 10,000 steps in every day. Get yourself an inexpensive fitness tracker like this one to help you keep count and stay motivated.
Habit #3: Get 20 minutes of fresh air and sunlight. Take a walk around the neighborhood or just sit outside. Try to use this time to just be with yourself, keep your phone in your pocket instead!
Habit #4: Get a daily moisturizer that has SPF to use every day (even if you’re staying inside all day)! This will keep your skin healthy and prevents wrinkles and sun damage down the line.
Habit #5: Drink plenty of water! My water bottle literally never leaves my side. This one is my favorite and it comes with an extra straw to switch out while the other one is being cleaned. In general, you should aim to drink 11.5 cups (or 2.7 liters) of water/day for women and 15.5 cups (or 3.7) for men.
Habit #6: Incorporate yoga or mediation into your weekly routine. Yoga and meditation are said to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting spirituality, sleep, and mindfulness!
Habit #7: Challenge yourself to start an exercise regimen. If you’re new to exercising, check out my tips for starting exercise whether you’re a beginner or just haven’t worked out in a while!
Habit #8: Pack your lunch for work instead of ordering food or eating out! Food from home tends to be healthier and it’ll also save you money.
Habit #9: Plan a menu each week of the dinners you’ll have and a corresponding grocery list! I do this in my home and it helps SO MUCH. We have gone out to eat much less and it’s helped me to avoid impulse buys at the grocery store keeping our grocery total lower than normal. It may feel like a lot of work, but this one is soooo worth it. I use this menu planner to keep me organized.
Habit #10: Put your phone away an hour before bed. Use this time to read, have quality family time, watch your favorite show, or take a bubble bath.
Habit #11: Don’t skip out on your annual doctor’s appointments (and yes, this includes the dentist)!
Habit #12: Find a way to express yourself that you enjoy. Find a new hobby or start journaling and dedicate time each week specifically for it!
Habit #13: Floss every day. This habit was hard for me to stick to, so I started keeping floss sticks in my car, and I use them when I’m in traffic!
Habit #14: Limit your social media time each day. For example, I stopped going on social media during work.
Habit #15: Do your skincare routine every morning and night. This should be a standard for how you start and end each day. If this part intimidates you, check out my skincare page for tips and routine recommendations!
