How To Decorate Your Home Office On A Budget (for under $50)
I have recently found myself in need of a productive workspace at home that not only keeps me productive but also inspires me. This is how I discovered how to decorate your home office on a budget!
My aesthetic varies (mostly by what I see on Pinterest) between rustic farmhouse vibes and bohemian plant-filled oasis (you know what I mean, right?)

Decorating Your Small Home Office Space
As I’ve already stated, I was in desperate need of a cute but functional home office space. I did what I do best, and I browsed Pinterest for the cutest home office setups. I wanted my home office to SCREAM successful boss babe (because one can dream, right?!).
One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to decorate on a budget. Desks and chairs these days are running for hundreds of dollars on the cheap end, so I knew I wanted to get the best setup, organization, and decor on a serious budget.

Small Space, Small Problems!
I also knew I had to consider the space I had. I live in a two-bedroom apartment across the country from all my friends and family. We often have visitors which means our second bedroom doubles as a real second bedroom. Ideally, this space would be 100% devoted to office space, but I knew I had to find a way to make the room work for both.
The space I have to work with for the office part is (roughly) 6 feet by 5 feet.
Decorating A Desk At Home On A Budget
I won’t be talking about the foundations of the office meaning the desk or the chair (because I haven’t found one I love yet, so if you have one you love, please leave me a comment!). Instead, I’d rather focus on the small decor that I have found to make a difference in my inspiration and productivity.
Here is my favorite playlist to jam in the background while I’m hard at work at home!
I scoured my local target as we all do when we aren’t sure what we need but know we need something. I found a great selection of supplies that got me excited to get home and get to work! Here is what I gathered for under $50 to complete my small, at-home workspace.

Small Home Office Must-Haves
Yes! The picture I used to (hopefully) reel you in IS MY OWN! These are the actual things I bought!
Let’s break it down by item.
First is a binder to keep notes organized. The sugar paper essentials brand at target had the cutest binders available. This specific binder came with 3 dividers and a divider pocket. The gold accents matched the goal aesthetic in mind for the office space, and the price matched the quality! Price: $12.99
This is the front and back of a very uniquely styled weekly planner. Also from sugar paper essentials, this layout allows for any dates, months, or times you can think of. The lack of structure and additional trendiness made this item an absolute must-have! Price: $5.99
Bonus points for being able to rip out a page if my week isn’t going to plan and being able to start over without being tied to dates the way you are in a planner.
Additionally, I needed something to hold my abundance of watercolor markers. Gold was already in the plans for the accents (also accented in the binder), and this was perfect for the price! Very simple but serves an important purpose. Price: $6.99
Decorating Your Desk Space
This adorable plant was only $4.99! Can you believe that? And it isn’t living, aka it will sit on your desk forever and ever looking cute. However, I will forewarn you that this is from the Hearth & Hand collection which has proven to be difficult to order online, and store inventory varies drastically. Additionally, this brand is known for being way too overpriced but also on-trend and adorable.
Decorating Your Home Office Under $50
Everything I got totals up to a few cents over $30! That’s insane for how cute this stuff is. Next step is purchasing a desk and chair, so stay tuned for updates and pictures of the final product.
Overall, it isn’t difficult to create an inspiring but productive office space! All it takes is an idea of what items you need and what aesthetic you’re going for. When in doubt, just walk around your favorite store and see what jumps out at you.
I had a blast and spent a total of MAYBE 20 minutes finding this stuff. If these items don’t fit what you’re looking for, I don’t doubt you’ll find something amazing at a great price!
