Fitness New Years Resolutions
Fitness resolutions are by far the most common new years resolutions, and they’re also probably the hardest ones to stick to. It’s a known fact that gyms are the busiest in January & February, and then their traffic dies down quickly after that.
I recommend SKIPPING THE GYM MEMBERSHIP!
Yes, you heard that right (or, read, I suppose). Create a small space in your home where you can stretch, dance, strength train, etc. instead. Unless spending money is your only motivation to get up and get moving, skip it & set yourself a goal.
Maybe after 3 months of consistently working out you reward yourself, you celebrate with a gym membership. There isn’t one right way to get fit, so experiment with what feels right to you!
This yoga mat & these resistance bands are a great first addition to your space as you get started.
Let’s go over some practical and realistic fitness resolutions for the new year.
1. Incorporate an activity that gets your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes, most days of the week.
Let’s break this down.
Pick an activity that gets your heart rate up. *Emphasis on PICK!* Choose something you already enjoy! If you have always hated running, you should probably not decide to do that for the next twelve months of your life.
Here are examples of activities that are enjoyable AND get your heart up:
-
Yoga
-
Dancing
-
Walking (bonus points if it’s on an incline)
-
Following along to a YouTube workout by someone you enjoy and feel motivated by
-
Pilates
-
Bodyweight exercises
-
Cycling or bike riding
These are just some examples, but don’t limit yourself to this list! There is something out there for everyone, and you will find something you enjoy that also makes you feel healthy.
If you are brand new to working out, make sure to read over this guide on how to start exercising as a beginner to help you avoid injuries!
Here are some basics to stock up on and keep in your home to kickstart your fitness journey:
Financial New Years Resolutions
I hate to harp on how crazy of a year it was, but like, it was crazy. It left a lot of people in uncertain positions financially whether through layoffs, furloughs, or just not enough business coming in to pay the bills.
This left many people, including myself, in search of a way to make money on their own. There are legit, money-making side hustles available to lead you to greater financial freedom!
Let’s discuss the three best side hustles that can bring in a full-time income:
-
Blogging
-
Transcription writing
-
Using your skillset to do freelance work
Now, as you can probably assume, my favorite is blogging. My blog has given me a huge leg up in financial freedom when I only really put about 5 hours a week into it. Bonus points because I also get to do it in my pj’s on the couch.
I make hundreds and hundreds of dollars every month of totally passive income. If you are interested in starting a blog specifically to make money, check out my step by step guide here.
Transcription work is great for those who are fast and accurate typers and want to work from the comfort of their own home doing something relatively easy and stress-free! The most popular company is probably Transcribe Me. It’s super easy to get started, so check them out!
Freelance work can be a slow start but worth it in the end. There are great websites like Fiverr and Upwork (and a quick google search can show you many others) that are specifically made for freelancers! Figure out what you’re good at, what you could help other people with, or what service you could sell, and get going! You won’t know how successful it can be if you never start!
Easy New Years Resolutions
These are the resolutions that tend to be vague and have less pressure to meet a specific goal. Many people think these don’t work, but I think having a general goal to be better in any area helps you make conscious decisions every day towards that goal!
Here are 5 Examples of Easy New Years Resolutions:
-
Eat better
-
Save more money
-
Practice self-love
-
Learn a new skill
-
Limit time on social media
These work best if you keep little reminders scattered around your home in places that make sense! For example, you may keep an expo in that bathroom to write 3 things you love about yourself every morning on your mirror to look at while you get ready.
You can also set reminders through your phone and schedule them to go off during times you are likely to go against your goal! Maybe at 7 pm every night you get a reminder to log off social media for the day or a reminder at lunchtime to practice a new hobby you’re learning!
What are your new year’s resolutions this year?! I am really interested to connect and hear everyone’s thoughts on how to leave this year in the past and start next year with positivity. Leave me a comment or send me a message in my contact form so we can chat about it!
